GTM Motions vs. Growth Motions vs. Purchase Motions

There are three primary GTM Motions. Marketing-led, Sales-led or Partner-led.

Don't confuse the three. A GTM motion is different from a purchase motion.

There are three primary GTM Motions. Marketing-led, Sales-led or Partner-led.

Most companies have one primary GTM Motion and a secondary motion.

Some use all three.

GTM Motions are how you bring a product to the market and acquire customers.

Then there are different Growth Motion under each GTM motion.

Things like Community-led Growth, Product-Led growth, Content-led Growth, Customer-led Growth, etc.

Growth Motions are how you find the right leads, close the right customers, and create customer champions.

Then lastly there are Purchase Motions.

There are typically three. Self-purchase, Sales-assisted, and Partner-assisted.

Purchase Motions are how people buy your product and give you their money.

I see far too often companies and GMT leaders confusing or conflating the three different things.

It starts first with education and then uniting around the common terms and definitions.

Unite, don't align.
